WEDNESDAY: 10:00 am – Noon & 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm
FRIDAY: 10:00 am – Noon & 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm
SATURDAY: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm & 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

BROWSING SERVICE

No appointment needed!

TUESDAY: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm & 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm
THURSDAY: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm & 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm

PLEASE NOTE: Teen Curbside Pickup Appointments and item hold pickups will now be available through the Main Desk rather than the Children’s Room.

The browsing service will be offered without appointments and will allow browsing of all main level adult collections and all lower level children’s and teen collections. Appointments will be replaced by a three-hour morning and a three-hour afternoon browsing period. The morning time will run from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the afternoon time will run from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Please understand that, while these browsing periods are three hours long, they are intended to allow ample time to select items and then check them out. Despite our expanded services, our space will not be set up for reading or socializing.

Patrons will be able to enter the building from either the main entrance or the back door, both of which will be unlocked at 9:30 am for the morning browsing time, and at 2:30 pm for the afternoon browsing time. Elevator service will be available but we ask that only one person use the elevator at a time except for members of your household.

Those who would like to use our browsing service are encouraged to pick up their holds when they come into the building in lieu of waiting to pick up their holds via Curbside Pickup. Please have your library card or some form of ID with your name on it handy to make the transaction easier.

Please note: you will be required to wear a mask and to social distance when in the building.

These expanded services may continue to change – please watch for details at abbotlibrary.org, on our Facebook page @AbbotLibraryMarblehead, or on our blog at https://abbotpubliclibrary.wordpress.com

Thank you for your patience and your continued support, as we navigate through these unprecedented times!

Browsing By Appointment Coming in April!

Abbot Public Library is pleased to announce the expansion of our services to include an additional way for patrons to select and borrow tangible materials. Based on the results of our Library Services Survey, we will be offering limited browsing, by appointment, one day per week, while continuing to provide our very popular Curbside Pickup Service, five days per week.

Our hours for Curbside Pickup and the Browsing By Appointment Services will be as follows, starting the week of April 8th:

Curbside Pickup Service

Monday: 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Tuesday: 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Wednesday: 10:00 am – Noon & 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Friday: 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Saturday: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm & 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Browsing By Appointment Service

Thursday: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm & 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Appointments will be ½ hour long with ½ hour between appointments for sanitizing and cleaning.

Registration for browsing appointments will be open on Thursday, April 1st. The first appointment date will be Thursday, April 8th. Appointments will be a half hour long, and browsers will be required to wear masks (patron-provided) and gloves (library-provided). Browsing will be limited to designated areas where new and recent additions to all categories of the Library’s collections will be gathered.

Appointments will be specific to the department you would like to browse – either Children’s/Teen, or Adult. If you would like to browse multiple areas, you will need to make separate appointments for each space.

To browse the adult sections on the Main Level, please register for an Adult appointment by calling the Main Desk at 781-631-1481, Ext. 201 or 223 or emailing mar@noblenet.org

To register for an appointment in the Children’s Room AND/OR the Teen Room on the Lower Level, please call the Children’s Room at 781-631-1481, Ext. 217 or 237, or email the Children’s Department at marchild@noblenet.org or the Teen Department at marteen@noblenet.org

Adhering to social distancing space requirements, we are able to accommodate up to four adults on the main level, and an additional four total patrons – children, teen, or adult – on the lower level in the Children’s Room and/or the Teen Room, per half-hour appointment.

Please watch for further details of our expanded services by following us on Facebook, or by visiting our website or here on our blog.

Thank you for your patience and your continued support, as we navigate through these unprecedented times!

Message to the Marblehead Community from the Abbot Public Library – Current and Upcoming Services

As we begin our third month offering curbside pickup service, as a way for patrons to safely borrow books, DVDs and other tangible items from our collections, we have been gratified by your very positive response to this structured individualized service. Most recently, funds generously provided by the Friends of Abbot Library have allowed us to add a new online system, to our curbside service, providing the ease and convenience of scheduling your pickup time, yourself, online.

Looking ahead, health and safety priorities for both patrons and staff, in the new world of COVID-19, will continue to guide all our decisions regarding the introduction of in-building services. We envision this process as gradual and selective, to include browsing of newly acquired materials, access to computers and printers, and availability of copiers – all by individual appointment. We are eager to open our doors to you and are working hard to prepare our spaces and design procedures to safely offer these services, while continuing our curbside service in a more sheltered setting, as the weather turns cooler.

The date we reopen for in-building services (which will be by appointment only) will depend on the timetable for two major projects being undertaken to protect the health of patrons and staff.

We expect that our building will be ready for initial in-building services in the second half of October. The actual date will be largely dependent upon the timetable for two major projects being undertaken to protect the health of patrons and staff. One project is the fabrication and installation of plexiglass enclosures for all four of our public service areas. The second is the thorough cleaning of the library’s air circulation duct system, which will significantly improve both air flow and air quality.

To help us in making sure that we use our limited resources to best match our users’ service priorities, we have created a survey for you to give us your input. You will be able to access this survey via the link on our websitewww.abbotlibrary.org — as an attachment to the email being sent to all our active Marblehead cardholders, and, in paper format, in our curbside service location at the back entrance to the Library. Please take a few minutes to complete and return our survey. Your valued responses will guide us, as we move forward!

We sincerely thank you for your patience and support as we reshape our services to meet your needs, in this unprecedented time.

Online Registration for Curbside Pickup Now Available!

We have now made it even easier to pick up your library items. Once you receive a notification that your items are ready for pick up, simply click on the registration link in your notice to be brought to our events calendar, or visit abbotlibrary.org and click on the “Curbside Pick-Up” button. From there, choose the time slot that works best for you and hit “Register.” Please read the instructions carefully — we are constantly updating our curbside pick up service to better serve you — and fill out the registration form as completely as possible. Once you have submitted the form, you will receive an email confirming your appointment time. Should you need to cancel your appointment, it’s as easy as clicking on the cancellation link in your confirmation email.

Items will continue to be placed outside of the rear entrance of the library in labeled bags. Bags will be set out at the start of your appointment slot, and will remain outside for a half hour. We appreciate your mindfulness of social distancing requirements while picking up your items.

Appointment slots are available Monday through Friday from 2:00 – 5:30, and on Saturdays from 9:30 – Noon and 1:00 – 3:00. Please call the Library at (781) 631-1481 during these business hours for assistance.

A very special thank you to the Friends of Abbot Library, who have generously provided the funding to make our new registration system possible for curbside and beyond!

You Can Begin Returning Library Items To Book Returns Today!

As of Monday, June 29th, the Abbot Public Library is pleased to announce that we will be accepting returns of library items charged out before the Library closed in March.

Returns will be accepted Mondays through Saturdays. Please note: the library will be unable to accept returns on Friday, July 3rd or Saturday, July 4th, due to the Independence Day holiday.

Please return items to the outdoor book drops only, located outside of the library on Pleasant Street. If you have borrowed an item that will not fit in the book return, such as a children’s backpack kit or bookclub bag, please call the library at (781) 631-1481 between 2:00 pm – 5:45 pm Monday through Saturday to make arrangements to return the item.

Return items

book returns
Mondays through
Saturdays

Please note that we are unable to accept any book donations at this time.

All returned library materials will be quarantined to eliminate the potential for the spread of the coronavirus. Returned items will be checked in after the quarantine period, and, therefore, may continue to appear on your library account during this time. In view of this new system, the library will not be charging overdue fines.

No fines!

While we are looking forward to having library items come home, please do not feel obligated to return items immediately. The current due date for items already checked out is Monday, July 20th. The  purpose of this extended due date, along with the removal of overdue fines, is to encourage everyone to return items when it feels safest for you to do so. If you have been waiting to get rid of those library books since March, feel free to return them on June 29th — if you would like to hold onto them for a while longer, we encourage that as well.

Beginning on Monday, July 6th, Abbot Public Library will also begin to offer a curbside pickup service. Please read the full details about this service here.
